Command Show Raspberry Pi Model

Command Show Raspberry Pi Model, I have been asked about this quite a few times.

A search on the net will reveal various methods, so I’ll will show you two of the ways I’ve found. Both of these work well, one is a little less elegant but gets the job done, and the other is simple, elegant and gets to the to the point. Guess which which one I use all the time.

Method 1. USING sudo dmesg

Type in -> sudo dmesg | less at the command line

Note: The Pipe character between the dmesg ‘|’ and the word less

Note: The pipe is on the same key as the backslash key. It is located above the Enter key (Return key) and below the Backspace key. Pressing and holding down the Shift key while pressing the pipe key creates a pipe

As you can see it works, but would you say elegant? Not really…

Method 2. USING sudo cat /sys/firmware/devicetree/base/model; echo

Type in -> sudo cat /sys/firmware/devicetree/base/model; echo

aahhh much better… This way gives a much easier to read result and is much less prone to confusion.

So, there you go, two easy commands to show your Raspberry Pi model. Hope this comes in handy one day….
